Active Management

The assets in each of the UCF common investment funds are actively managed by carefully selected, outside investment management firms. For a complete list of the UCF's current asset managers, click here.

Manager selection and the on-going task of oversight of their performance is the responsibility of the UCF's Investment Committee, twelve (12) members of UCC churches accross the country with professional institutional investment management experience. Members of the UCF Investment Committee are selected by the UCF Board of Directors and have full control over the Foundation's investment management program.

The UCF Investment Committee expects its asset managers to operate with the guidelines it sets forth in the UCF Investment Policy, which is reviewed annually and revised as needed. To see the complete 46-page policy click here.

The UCF Investment Committee is staffed by the UCF's Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Mrs. Catherine Waterworth, who is also the CIO of the Pension Boards--United Church of Christ (PB-UCC). Mrs. Waterworth works for the Foundation under contract with the PB-UCC and brings over 30 years of experience in managing both equity and fixed-income securities. She also supervises the PB-UCC Fixed-Income Team, which manages the Foundation's Fixed-Income Fund and its Cash and Equivalent Fund.

The UCF Investment Committee and its CIO also obtain technical assistance in selecting managers and evaluating their performance from Summit Strategies Group, an institutioinal asset management consulting firm located in St. Louis. For more information about the Summit Strategies Group consulting practice, click here.

Given the Foundation's commitment to promoting Corporate Social Responsibility through shareholder advocacy and screening, active management of its assets is necessary. But the Investment Committee also believes that superior investment results can be achieved through diversifying portfolios by equity class and manager style and by selecting successful managers who specialize in these classes and styles.
