Not For Profit

Being a not-for-profit organization is a big benefit for participants in the United Church Foundation's (UCF) Common Investment Funds. Consider these advantages.

1) There are no stock holders looking for quarterly dividends or capital gains from profits generated by their investment. By definition, there are no profits going to anybody, period.

2) There are no salesmen or saleswomen, and therefore no sales commissions or production bonuses needing to be paid each month. Enthusiastic participants promote the low-cost high-performance services offered by the UCF free of charge.

3) There are no honorariums or other benefits paid to Board Members for attending UCF Board or UCF Committee meetings. These generous folks give their time and considerable professional expertise to the Foundation for free, out of their love for the United Church of Christ. Sharing their knowledge and experience benefits hundreds of participating churches and other UCC organizations using the Foundation funds.

4) Regulated under the Philanthropy Protection Act of 1995, the Foundation and its Common Investment Funds are not subject to the must more costly registration, regulation, and reporting requirements mandated under the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, or state securities laws. Not having to generate all of the semi-annual reports, prospectuses, supplemental information statements and other paperwork required for compliance with these laws gives the UCF a significant cost advantage, which translates directly into "more money for ministry" intead of legal fees.

5) Being not-for-profit perfectly aligns the Foundation's interests with those of its not-for-profit participants, and strengthens the UCC's influence on creating a better world.
